14. Block damask at the loom, part B
Hi Becky,
I purchased a Lilla from Vavstuga last year and I would like to know a comfortable way to tie it up, adjust the cords/treadles, get a good shed. It is small, so getting inside of it is not possible. Your details in this video are helping but you are at the back of the loom and up close to the lambs. The front foot beam also prevents me from getting close to the treadles and lamps comfortably for tie up. Any advice for Lilla users?
Thank you,
Kristen
Hello Kristen,
I'm so sorry for the late reply, for some reason I ceased getting notifications in my email, and hopefully we have fixed that problem.
Sometimes we find it easier to tie up the Lilla before bringing the warp forward and tying it onto the front. Everything is a lot more accessible. We are planning to make a free video available to everyone on our website of some of the details of tying up the Lilla loom so thank you for your query. We will try to fit this project into our schedule sometime this year.
Hi Becky,
I have a Toika Eeva countermarch loom. I am weaving on it for the first time and the first time weaving on a countermarch loom. I have gotten so much information from your videos for putting a warp on the loom. I am at the point where I am having a terrible time trying to tie it up. Is there a specific distance for the space between the lower bar of the shaft and the upper lamm that I am supposed to be using? Is there a specific distance between the upper lamms and the lower lamms? My Toika loom has four holes for both the upper lamms and lower lamms but the tie up system that came with the loom does not support all of the distances. The cords that go from the jacks to the lower lamms are only long enough for one hole for the upper lamm and one hole for the lower lamm. Any advice for Toika users?
Thank you,
Tricia
After I pull out the holding pins, my shafts do not sit nicely like they did when I had the shaft holders in. This is the second warp I have put on my Toika Eeva horizontal countermarch loom. The first warp I did, which was plain weave, I added two more shafts and threaded them also for plain weave, and that seemed to help do something to open the shed. I still had to adjust the some of the upper and lower lams, from the jacks, to get a clean bottom shed. Now, I have an 8 shaft warp and am doing a turned twill weave and when I pulled out the holding pins, the shed is literally a mess. none of the shafts are even. I am not sure where to start to get the shafts even and at the middle of the heddle eye, in order to get a clean shed. Please help. I am not sure why no one seems to be answering questions posted on the forums. I find the videos absolutely wonderful, but I am finding it difficult to get answers to my questions put on the forum.
Hello Tricia,
I am so sorry To keep you waiting here. For some reason I ceased getting notifications in my email of new queries, and hopefully we have solved that problem.
I am not a Toika user, but I do understand your question. I will reach out to my assistant teacher Eva, who has used this kind of loom and probably has a better answer than I would.
Stay tuned,
Becky
thank you Becky. The same email issue has happened to me.
I am experiencing the same as Tricia. I had a good shed with 4 shafts on my first project. I went up to 8 on my second. I have 2 treadle for plain weave, and they seem to make a clean shed. Then I have 8 treadle to weave a twill, and the shed is all over the place on those 8 treadle.
I have a countermarch loom from Bear Creek looms in Ada, Michigan. Bought it used, have not found any manuals for it.
I have been watching videos trying to understand the Vastuga tie up. Is there one video which shows the tie up dimensions, and then how to fix shed issues? Is there a pdf with measurements and diagrams?
