I am glad that you are getting something out of my video class!
I mostly do not use patterns for sewing, skirts are rectangles, and bodices are rectangles with armholes and neck holes cut out and a little angle under the arm, and maybe some darts. Sometimes I lay out piece of clothing that fits me onto my handwoven fabric and use that as a cutting guide.

Not sure if you have heard of Daryl Lancaster, but she is a weaver and specializes in sewing garments and teaching people to sew garments out of handwoven materials.

Hello all - learning very useful tricks at the loom thank you so much. However, I don't have those big looms. I have an 8 shaft tabletop, no treadles. I just throw the levers for the shafts, hopefully in the correct sequence every time.
What I run into (along with a bunch of other stuff) is how you figure when you put more than one thread through a reed slot.

TY for responding. So let us say I am wanting to make plaid cloth. I have managed to get the pattern I want worked out and have selected the highland wool I want to use. What thinking goes into making the decision as to whether I put two ends into one reed slot or one end or three ends?
Is it a decision based on threadsize? Or how tight you want the weave to be? etc... etc....

Deciding what "sett" (how close together your warp threads are), is a large and important subject.
I teach a comprehensive session about this in my Swedish Classics class, which I am planning to put on video for release in 2023.
For example:
If I wanted to "sett" my threads at 6 ends per centimeter for example, I can either use a 30 dent reed (3 dents per cm) 2 ends per dent, or a 60 dent reed 1 end per dent - those would be the same sett. Sometimes it depends on what reed you have or not, but it can also depend on the abrasion of the threads, and if they need a larger dent to not be sticky, or if you may want one end per dent in a finer reed so that you don't get streaks in your weaving. All of this depends on a lot of factors specific to each project.

I know I watched a video that explains how to make tie-up cords using leftover yarns on bobbins using a bobbin winder. I would like to watch this video again but for the life of me can't remember which video it is. All I know is that it is in the basics class. And as much as I enjoyed watching the videos last year, I don't have time to watch them again right now to locate that little nugget. I looked in the index but nothing jumped at me. Tanks!

I am a new weaver, and am so excited to have signed up for the video basics class. I just got a new to me Gilmore 8 shaft 12 treadle jack loom and spent a week polishing and cleaning reeds, counting heddles etc. I’m concerned that the video I began watching shows amazing tension management skills when winding on the warp for the tablecloth but Imy loom is different. Will I be able to complete these class projects with good results on my loom? A friend has the Julia… I won’t be able to get another loom.

Hey again… have ordered all the video basics kits and so excited. I’m still trying to get oriented a bit and am starting to feel a little worried as I don’t have any metric reeds and my loom has a 40” weaving width. Will I still be able to complete the video basics class with my 8 shaft 10 treadle jack loom?

Loved my tablecloths and learned so much from that assignment. Warp is wound and chained for dishtowels - and weavers blessings have fallen on me and I am now a proud owner of a 120 cm Glimakra standard with drawloom kit. 12 shafts/12 treadles. It has the sectional warping pieces, but I have not used a sectional before so will use warp sticks for the dishtowels and add the sectional parts after (before blanket assignment). I have ordered a wider metric reed from your store, and some cardboard tubes. Have printed out several articles from Glimakra site on assembling the loom and basic frame is done - starting treadles/lams installation today. Purchased from an experienced weaver (retired engineer) and I'm so thankful he labeled parts and hardware for me. Plan is to go ahead and set up drawloom kit with vertical cm parts. Going slowly... Hoping to be weaving dishtowels by Nov 1. Blanket by Thanksgiving, damask squares by christmas????? Then, hoping your Swedish Classics video course will be available in 2025...
